Fundado en el 2018, Taller Nepantla es un instituto-colectivo sin-fronteras que construye relaciones sociales dentro del arte y la cultura. Nepantla es un concepto Náhuatl que significa “estar en el medio”. Para nosotrxs, nepantla caracteriza procesos liminales y no-binarios para pensar la identidad, el territorios, la política y el arte. Como taller somos un tercio centro comunitario, un tercio laboratorio y un tercio academia.
Desde la fundación del colectivo, nuestras colaboraciónes se enfocan en criticar la industria cultural y subvertir los estándares de la cultura dominante. Exploramos el uso de materiales cotidianos y profundizamos en el proceso. Nuestra intención artística siempre apunta hacia la liberación de todxs. Ocupamos el arte como un espacio de experimentación social.
Founded in 2018, Taller Nepantla is a borderless institute-collective that invests in social relationships within arts and culture. Nepantla is a Nahuatl word that describes the concept “being in the middle." For us, nepantla characterizes the liminal and non-binary processes we occupy to think about identity, territories, politics and art. As a "workspace" we are a third community center, a third laboratory and a third academia.
Since the founding of the collective, our collaborations focus on criticizing the cultural industry and subverting the standards of the dominant culture. We explore the use of everyday materials and prioritize the process. Our artistic intention always aims towards the liberation of everyone.

Gabriel (Nicaragua/EEUU) - Soy gestor cultural, artista e investigador. Tengo una Maestría en Teoría Crítica y una licenciatura en Psicologia y Filosofia. Con más de diez años de experiencia, mi trabajo intelectual se enfoca en la Crítica Institucional, la gestión crítica de la cultura, la autogestión de espacios para pensar en conjunto el anticapitalismo y la emancipación colectiva.
Cecilia (México/EEUU) - Soy una artista que incursiona en muchos ámbitos diferentes de la creación, como el tatuaje, el tejido, la videografía, el grabado y la escultura. Soy licenciada en Teoría Crítica y Justicia Social. Mi práctica centra una experiencia encarnada de muchas maneras diferentes. Nuestra experiencia de este mundo está determinada por nuestros cuerpos y se desarrolla en ellos, somos nuestros cuerpos. Cuando hago un trabajo, abordo el uso de la textura, el color, el diseño y el proceso con esto en mente.

Gabriel (Nicaragua/EEUU) - I am a cultural manager, artist and researcher.
I have a Master's degree in Critical Theory and a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Philosophy. With over ten years of experience my intelectual work is focused on Institutional Critique, la critical administration of culture, the creation of DIY spaces that help us collectively think anti-capitalism and collective liberation.
Cecilia (Mexico/EEUU) - I am an artist who dabbles in many different realms of creation such as tattooing, weaving, videography, printmaking, and sculpture. I have a degree in Critical Theory and Social Justice. My practice centers an embodied experience in many different ways. Our experience of this world is all determined by and played out upon our bodies, we are our bodies. When making work I approach my use of texture, color, design and process with this in mind.
